Mich
The name of the town, Derived from the estimated number of the holes
through which the cold water emitted from the foot of the escarpment
nearer the Town Arbaminch (forty springs) flowing from ground water
forest. Arbaminch is 510 km South of Addis Ababa. It has two small towns;
the one located on the top & the other on the flat land called Secha
and Sikela. From Secha you can easily view the town’s main tourist
attraction both lakes of Chamo & Abaya, The necha Sar National park
plain as well as the mountain which divides both lakes called the Bridge
of God.
Nech
Sar National Park
Located
on The Eastern Edge of Arbaminch town lies within the floor of the Great
Rift Valley and extends from 5 degree 51’ N to 6 degree 50’N
and 37 degree 32’ E to 37 degree 48’ E with an elvation
varying between 1108-1650 meters above sea level. Currently the park
is running by African
Parks Conservation (APS). If you want to know about APS click on
it. The wild lives you can visit in Nech Sar National Park are: -Swayne’s
hartebeest, Burechelles Zebra, Grants gazelle, Secretary bird, Kory
bastard, Abyssinian ground hornbill and ofcourse Zebras (widely seen
in a group on the grassy plain). |

Lake
Chamo & Abaya,
The lakes and the Lakeshores are an interesting component of the great
Biodiversity of the Lake ecosystem. In Lake Chamo, many huge Nile Crocodiles
inhabit. Their concentration on the lakeshore on the sandy or Grassy
area commonly called Crocodile Market where you can find from the smaller
Croc to the huge and 5 meter long ones, abundant fishes including the
Nile Perch, Hippos and water related birds such as Pelicans, Lesser
Flamingos, Fish Eagle and other water related birds. Lake
Abaya, apart from its being a place for the Crocs it is a nice place
for motor sporting, sport fishing and to have closer view point.
The
Forty Springs and the ground water forest,
The main water resource of the ground forest and the town flows in the
middle of the dense forest nearby by the parks head quarter. As estimated,
the ground hole reaches 40.
Bridge
of God
The center of the park between the 2 lakes Abaya and Chamo is a flat
surface 4.2 km apart with an elevation of 61m.
Chench
& Dorze
Chencha is a town mainly for the Dorze tribal people which is 45 km
north of Arbaminch on the top of the Dorze mountain. Chench and Dorze
are among the highland plateau of the Southern Ethiopia located on the
elevation more than 2750m above sea level. Dorze
the southern tribal people known by their cotton weaving and hut are
considered to be one of the hardworking people of the region. Dorze
Hut, look like an Elephant head is a twelve meter high tikul made up
of bamboo tree and false banana leaf. The length of the ‘tikul’
may decrease from year to year due to the termites. Once if termites
eat the bottom of the ‘tikul’, the owner of the Dorze hut
may dig the ground again and put it back once again.
