Rafting on the Ethiopian rivers

Omo River is one of the ten top or so river systems of Ethiopia. It emptiest in to lake Turkana supplying almost all the fresh water to the lake.

The upper riches marked by spectacular canyons and reckoned by enthusiasts to be one of Africa's most exciting locations for white -water rafting.

Its lower part makes up one of the last true wilderness areas in all of Africa. The omo has all the big game species of Africa and more than that are somewhat protected in three national parks. The main attractions of the Omo valley are its generally wild nature, shy animals and exotic tribal peoples.

Another interesting feature is the Awash River gorge that makes up the park's southern boundary and with waterfall at its head. There is also a palm-lined, shimmering: aquamarine hot spring pool and fen tale volcano with steaming fumaroles.

Bordering the Awash National Park, a 28 km stretch of the Awash River offers a superb one -or two-day trip, featuring lots of spirited rapids, wild life and impressive rugged cliffs and side canyons.

Columbus and Verves stare dawn from the tamarinds and figs lining the banks, the baboons, waterbuck, warthog, and lesser Kudu come dawn to drink.

A sacred hot spring is a great place for an overnight camp.
