The
Semien Mountain Massif a major mountain massif as well as the 4th highest
mountain in Africa is a broad plateau cut of to the north and western
Ethiopia by an enormous single crag over 60 km long. To the south the
tableland slope gently down to 2200m divided by gorges a thousand meter
deep that can take more than two days to cross.

Within this spectacular splendor live the Walia Ibex, Semien Red Fox, Gelada Baboon (all endemic to Ethiopia) as well as Hamadryas Baboon, Klindspinger & Bushbuck. Birds such as Lammergeyer, Auger buzzard, Verreaux's Eagle, Kestrel and Falcon also soar above this mountain retreat.
Mountain Ras Dashen stands adjacent to the Semien mountain national park. 4620m high, it is the highest mountain in Ethiopia.
